Music is the rhythm in our hearts

I found it very difficult to find an advertisement to use for this entry. The text in the ad says; It's not what you want to say, It's what you have to say. This is an ad for Zildjian and if not familiar with the music world, one may be lost at what this ad is for. Zildjian is a brand of cymbals/hi hats for drummers. Since I felt the need to explain what the brand was, I would assume that this ad is not effective. The text I feel depicts how a musician feels when writing and performing music. This text is like the thought in the drummers head at this point. Overall I think this ad may be difficult to understand. The text could of referenced the brand just a little more. This critique is from a perspective of most of the population not being too familia with Zildjian. I am a musician so this ad makes sense to me, but I could see room for improvement in what the text read.

Love <3

I found this graffiti on a tree located outside of the Union next to the pedway. Since it it found on a tree, I do find this to be a form of art. It is not defacing public property, it is just engraved into the trunk of the tree.

I really do not mind when I see things such as this graffiti. I think it is a simple reminder to everyone who passes it to find something in your day to love. Be passionate about something in your life. Whether this is someone or something, it will give you something to smile about. I would not however, say that this type of graffiti is very creative. It does not take much thought to carve your name into something. In conclusion one could guess that I do not mind this graffiti. I think it is cute in some sort of way.

Once upon a time….
A boy and a girl were taking a stroll around campus. The weather was beautiful and the tone of the campus was buzzing. People were playing volleyball and laying around in hammocks. The boy stops and kisses the girl; he tells her that one day he wants to marry her. She smiles and tells him how she can’t wait. She tells the boy how she wants to remember this exact moment. She grabs her keys and starts to carve her and the boys name in the tree. She wraps the names with a heart to symbolize the moment. She looks at him and says “Now we will always remember.”

p.s. sorry it is tilted, for some reason it won't flip right side up.

Ransom?

For this blog I want to to have a little fun. So I made a ransom note that you could read and laugh at. Take a look :]

It reads: Give me thirty bottles of ranch or else I will float your iPhone down the Mississippi River for a small child in Alabama to find.

I took all of my type out of a magazine. The top half of the note it in black type and the bottom half of the note is in white type. The entire ransom note is in a capital type as well. To make the type stand out from the white paper I put it on an orange background.

Scrabble?

1. Jenna is very athletic. Today she won her championship tennis match.
2. Being outside all day got her extremely dirty. She got home and showered immediately.
3. After getting out of the shower, her parents tell her they are going to take her into town for a surprise.

4. She asked what the surprise was and they responded saying “Let’s get some dessert, like fresh donuts from Krispy Crème!”
5. Molly gets excited and walks outside to the car, but upon reaching the car they notice a flat tire. She looks at her parents and says “another night?”

Favorite Things.

There are a lot of things that we consider to be very important inventions, but these are the 10 that I use everyday religiously. Take a closer look:

An ipod does not just play music anymore. It also plays games, accesses the internet, plays movies and take photos. I listen to my ipod everyday. It is like my alternative phone; always right next to me and charges every night. When walking I pick a song and just jam. Music can easily change my mood.

A picture frame allows you to share special memories you captured with others. My room is covered in photos; each photo representing some memorable moment. I always said if I could not speak, photos would be the words of my life. Photos mean the world to me. Its like the saying goes; memories fade but pictures last forever.

A laptop allows you to communicate with others and access any information you need from the internet. I am on my laptop several hours a day; whether it is to complete some homework for this class, write emails, visit websites, find information, etc. It is just another electronic gadget that makes life a whole lot easier.

A straightener allows you to style your hair to impress others. As a girl, this heating device is very important in my getting ready process. How would I ever get that sleek straight look without this flat iron? You can also create a curl look. The options are limitless in how you style your hair, but this tool is the factor that makes it happen.

A cleaner does exactly what it is called; clean. We humans get very dirty going about our day, so it is very important to practice good hygiene. Without shampoo or conditioner, your hair would look lifeless, greasy, and dull. Without body wash you will start to smell and offend people. Plus who doesn’t love that clean out of the shower feeling?

Transportation allows you to commute from one place to another. I commute through my car mostly. Commuting allows me to go to the store, take trips, visit loved ones, go off roading for entertainment, etc. We could not possibly see the places we do without a form of transportation to get us from point a to point b.

Shoes prohibit us from being in pain when walking around on rough or harmful surfaces. Without shoes my feet would burn on hot pavement. Without shoes my feet would get frost bite when snow was on the ground. Without shoes my feet would get cut up when walking on jagged rocks or tough grass.

A debit card allows you to carry around all of your money without having it in actual money form. I use my debit cards to purchase my everyday needs and just materials I would like to own. Shopping is always fun for a girl, so these pieces of plastic are extremely important. They grant us access to own concrete items.
A key can do two things; luck and unlock something. I use my keys to get into my house, car, safe, etc. It is also another method to keep someone or something out of a certain space that you want to remain private or untouched. Without keys everyone would have access to everything making it difficult to have an authoritative figure over something.

A cell phone allows you to do pretty much everything a computer does plus texting and calling someone. Even when typing this, I am texting and talking to some friends. Communication is what build friendships and relationships with other, so it is one of the most important things for me. When a phone breaks it is like your cut off from the world.

The roof is on fire.. roof of your mouth?

I do not think that this ad could have been executed any simpler. You have two elements; the picture and the brand name. The image in the ad is of a hand holding a bottle of hot sauce. The hand has the thumb on the lid, symbolizing the motion you would do when using a lighter. A lighter produces burning flames that hurt to touch. The hot sauce in place of the lighter is showing that it is too extremely hot to the point it burns to eat.

All three of Frank Jefkins’ principles were met in the ad, which is why it works. The ad gives interest and value to the reader. It is very precise and simple, making the point very straightforward and clear. It is also concise, so concise that no words are necessary except for the brand name place in the bottom left hand corner of the advertisement.

The ad is just trying to demonstrate how hot Goody Hot Sauce really is. In conclusion, I feel that an ad is extremely powerful if it relies heavily on its image to tell you about a product. I think this ad was designed very well.

Double bubble?
This is an advertisement for a “no drowsiness gum” found overseas. The image of the ad is trying to sell gum that will prevent you from falling asleep. One of the most important times to never fall asleep is while driving. You see a man falling asleep, but the gum is keeping him from putting his head on the wheel, forcing him to remain awake. However there is a lot of connotation in this ad. It suggests that a piece of no drowsiness gum is going to keep you from falling asleep at the wheel. In reality, we all know that if one is extremely sleep deprived, there is nothing that is going to prevent them from falling asleep. Most caffeine induced “highs” always come crashing down after a few hours.

I feel as though the image correctly depicts the point of the product. But it is so exaggerated that I almost want to laugh at the ad, rather than take it seriously. I then ask, how does one piece of gum keep you awake? I think the image works for what the product is trying to sell. I do not think it works in a way to make people want to buy the product. It brings a tone of humor, and some people I feel would be offended when joking about falling asleep at the wheel.

Like nothing else.

For this journal entry I chose to analyze one of the ads created by Hummer. I really enjoy the series and find it to take a twist on most car advertising. If you get the chance you should take a look at the full series of the “like nothing else” campaign.
This advertisement uses several aspects to convey the meaning of “like nothing else.” It keeps it simple to the eye by only using one object for the point of interest. The color harmony used in the ad is monochromatic. The advertisement only uses a variety of shades in the green color scheme. I believe this is because most lizards usually blend in with their surroundings from their predators and using all green shades shows this concept. The background of the ad has a blurred technique to bring the focus directly to the lizard/alligator. The colors in the ad also portray a very wildlife feel or tone.

I think this ad is well done. The use of photoshop to create a new creature brings attention to itself. When someone sees something new, they have to look at it for a longer period of time. The tail of the lizard also serves as a leading line for your eye to read the hummer logo. I feel as though the logo and tagline in the bottom right corner should however be enlarged just slightly. It is kind of difficult to read and identify the brand identity.

Sweet tooth?

I love sweet things, especially ice cream. It is a rare occasion that you find someone who does not enjoy the refreshing taste of ice cream. The options are unlimited allowing you to find the one flavor that hit’s the sweet tooth. I decided to go with three different ice cream brands for this journal entry.

This is the Ben and Jerry’s logo. It is very simple and clean to the eye using only three different colors; white, yellow, and black. The color harmony is monochromatic. The black background on the bold font with a slight border of yellow allows the text to pop out of the logo. The logo is the actual name of the two men who created the business.

This is the Baskin Robbins logo. I love this logos font and how it tilts, rather then being straight. The color harmony is analogous. The pink and blue colors are very closely related to each other on the color wheel. This logo name was also created by using the last names of the two men who started the business.

This is the dippin’ dots logo. This logo uses the most colors out of the three that I have chosen to analyze. I also like how they use the tagline “ice cream of the future. “I think it adds character to the logo and tells the customer what their ice cream is about. The color harmony is double complementary. The complementary pairs would be pink/blue and yellow/green. The logo represents how the ice cream also look. It has the name in the center of the circle of “dots.”
